By the solemn forty days
of Lent the Church
unites herself each year
to the mystery of Jesus
in the desert.

The Church has been
fasting for 2,000 years.
The legitimacy and moral
authority of fasting
speaks for itself.

(The Christians fast and do penance during
40 days as a preparation for the way of the Cross
of Jesus Christ and His Resurrection.
