Fatal Love Poem by Johnnie Parker

Fatal Love

You tell me of whispered desires
You speak to me of hope
You set my soul on fire
Then freeze me to the bone
You wrap me in deception
Warming me with lies
These false acts of kindness
Have killed me inside
Still I tried to give you more
But my love never could get past your pride
I wanted to be closer but I was always two steps behind
The more I wanted in
The further you’d run and hide
You could hypnotize me with your sweet melody
The caress of your words when you spoke
You could comfort me
You could soothe my pain
But hell was released when we broke
The path led straight to your eyes
And I finally saw past your disguise
Even with the flames licking at my skin
I was so cold within
I finally saw what I was to you
A slave to your sin
I never believed in heaven
But you gave proof that there’s a hell
As my heart shattered in pieces
Demons collected each piece as they fell
You motioned for me to come closer
And I moved on your command
I’m a puppet for your manipulation
You molded me in your hands
A victim of your tribulations
But tonight I take my stand.
No longer will you control me
This is the end of your reign
Leaving what we could be
Take this heart that you stain.
I need no reminders
Of the succubus you became.
A fatal love you’ve given,
Killing me inside.
I remember when you said you loved me,
The look in your eyes,
I knew there was more than I could see,
I knew that you lied.
Now the memory of me fades away,
The consequences that I pay,
For loving someone with no heart to sway.
Purged from this world,
Washed away with the tide.
Maybe you’ll look back some day
And say,
“I think I’m missing something in my life..”
