Fear Poem by Marilyn Shepperson

Fear

Rating: 5.0

You don't like to cross bridges
Ahead of time, but just look
At what is looming up on your horizon
You know you should be brave
Screw up your courage and face your fear
Because whether you like it or not
There's no getting out of it
You have got to get through it
You still have time to settle your nerves
But perhaps that's the problem
If it was tomorrow or even today
There wouldn't be so many nights
Left for tossing and turning and little sleep
When although you are tired out
The moment your head touches the pillow
Your brain goes into overdrive
Thinking over and over again of all
The things that could go wrong
You tell yourself to be sensible
It won't be as bad as you think
And once you are through that black hole
You're over the bridge and the worst will be past
You'll be able to look back
And maybe even smile and laugh, at your foolish fears
But while you are still on this side
Of that yawning chasm
No matter what or how you may try
To quell the churning deep inside
That evil worm keeps on gnawing.
