Feeling Beat Poem by Deluke Muwanigwa

Feeling Beat

Feeling Beat

As it had done for four billion, five hundred million, two thousand and twenty three years,

the sun carried the burden of nine thankless planets
keeping them in check
Warming them
Lighting them

Like a sinner condemned to a life of repetition in a fiery firmament
the sun having been condemned beyond purgatory

To save penance in a solar system not of its making
Baking
Faking acquiescence
And everyday carrying its burdens from east to west
At best, taking a short reprieve to start again
The next day
Till Amen.

Just like me
Carrying burdens every day
Some self inflicted
Others thrust upon me
And still others tied to my fate
Of late, feeling like in purgatory
Carrying burdens in the opposite direction to the sun
From west to east
Forever feeling the heat
Feeling beat.
