Sense the sweet anticipation
in the scents and sights and sounds,
Laugh with wild exhilaration,
(for laughter knows no earthly bounds!)
White Jasmine and bright Marigold
fill the air with fragrant scents;
Heaped in baskets uncontrolled,
brimming with heady contents!
Hear the rhythm of the drumbeat,
listen to the children sing;
As cymbals clash on every street,
temple bells begin to ring!
Watch them paint the earthen pots,
colours beaming rainbow bright;
Yellow stripes and purple dots!
Streamers, buntings light the night!
Catch me smiling for no reason
Come, herald in the festive season!
