Fireflies Poem by Dean Meredith

Fireflies

I’ll come
When no-one’s there
I’ll come
When I’m not expected
I’ll do what’s right
For the wrong reasons
And what’s wrong
For what I think is right
I’ll dream of fireflies
Circling in the night
I’ll wonder
Aimlessly
And wander
Out of sight
With my flicker of love
Buried deep within
To keep it from the wind
And in my glove
I’ll hold on tight
With all my fading might
Until inevitably
My blood starved hand
Releases
Unknowing
And I fall
Over and over
Ever lower
Waiting
For an end
Expecting pain
But free
For a few seconds
To glimpse the fireflies
One more time
