First Day Of School Poem by Joseph T. Renaldi

First Day Of School

Rating: 5.0

On the first day of a new school year
students meet with handshakes and grining faces
when tales of the Summer vacation seem to blend
more than at any other places.

The academic schedules appear to be ambiguous,
and some students are reluctant to take a peek.
Others have eyes that shine a little brighter
and now again will have new classmates to meet.

Where school loyalty is prevalent a little more,
and the students are proud to support the teams
where the singing of the Alma Mater is emotional,
and leaving a lump in the throat it seems.

where teachers seem a bit more congenial
when the students gather around
in classrooms, hallways, and school grounds
within an enviroment that is safe and sound.
