Flexible To A Fault Poem by Donal Mahoney

Flexible To A Fault

Rating: 3.5

If I owned a magazine
I'd publish
folks who agree
with me as long as
they remained abstract,
named no names,
offended no one,
harped on the obvious
problems of the day
and offered no
solutions.
I wouldn't want to hurt
anyone's feelings
or encourage lawsuits.

I'd want a magazine
for folks who believe
in what works now
not ideas that rely
on the past
or forecast
the future.
No history
or prophecy
for me.

Then I'd read
my magazine
along with my friends
who I realize may believe
something different tomorrow
and something else next week.
I'd name my magazine
Flexible to a Fault.
I'd want it to reflect
the ambivalence of
our day and age.

You most definitely got my attention. This is brilliant. Your message flew straight as an arrow and hit the target and by all rights should have brought down the ambivalent beast. It won't because it is an eternal beast. I enjoyed the structure and length of this poem- they suited the thesis. You chose the perfect words to spear, spike, and slight the soft, rotund self-satisfied target. In short, I am a fan but I don't think I will subscribe to that magazine Flexible to a Fault- -I'd rather read your incisive social comments.A brilliant 10++++++++++++++++++
