Flicker Of Hope Poem by Saudatu Kabir

Flicker Of Hope

How hard I tried to write
A poem I tried to form
But I lack the wisdom I lack the knowledge
And above all my patience was waning fast
Oh God help me for I see a glimpse of light

Sweet birds like beautiful maidens came
Perched a branch they sang so sweet a song
Rain poured from heavy weeping clouds
Trees and pretty little flowers dance with the wind
Yet I could not find my poem

The sun stretched to its fullest when time said noon
All its golden glory in full display
Night time the moon above it rose
And with a little light borrowed from the sun
Displayed its beauty of silvery white
And the stars with their sparkle came trotting along
Yet not a single line of poetry did I conceive

At night I had a vision come
I was a bird with feathers all of gold
I could fly to the moon, for sure I did
And met a woman on the moon
Pray miss, she begged of me
Do recite a poem for a lonely soul
I gave a loud yell and woke up in a sweat
Oh God help me compose a poem

A flicker of hope, a little light
Came to me that night I stayed awake
I composed my first poetry, true
For God in his mercy heard my pleas
And sent me wisdom to guide me through
