Foe Poem by Barbara Lovric

Foe

I welcomed my friend home again.
An uninvited friend
An intruder
He made me feel safe in my darkness
He made me forget there was light, there was a tunnel
I welcomed my friend home again
And i didn't cry
And i didn't weep
And i didn't ask for help
I welcomed my friend home again
How long has it been?
It never seems long enough
Can you stay away?
Just an hour?
Just a moment?
Just a day?
I do not wish to see him
I do not wish to speak
Because when he comes, when he comes
Darkness is all i know
Trying to fall asleep
I welcomed my friend home again
It hasn't even been a year
So, please, can you help me?
It's myself that i fear.
