Would You Look? Poem by Barbara Lovric

Would You Look?

I look myself in the mirror
Who is the girl that i see?
I don't know her
I don't know her at all
They say once that was me

I looky myself in the mirror
Trying, really trying not to see
all those things i could be
if only
if only
she was me

I look back sometimes
Really look
Trying to find all the things all those people took
Are they in me? Will they come back?
They say these will be the best years
But they took all i've got

I lied
I don't look myself in the mirror anymore
I fear what i'll see
All the mistakes?
All the lost time?
All of the scars i'm ashamed that are mine?
I lied
So many times
When i told you i cared
When i told you i'm fine
But mostly
I lied to myself
Because not looking in the mirror never makes me forget
