Fool's Gold Poem by Tyler Chambers

Fool's Gold

Rating: 5.0

I made eye contact with destiny this morning.
Now I'm not all too positive she liked what she saw because she made sure to keep moving along at the same pace.

But I mean, maybe things are better that way anyhow.
I've begun to come to terms with the fact that there's no grand prophecy for me to live out in the first place.

Do you remember when they all used to think that my eyes would sparkle and they'd swear that there was a glimmer to this smile?
Never before has the phrase 'times change' been so relevant.
These days most of them don't even recognize me thanks to this thick rust that blankets the boy I was supposed to be.
If I could, I would tell them all how sorry I am, but even then I wouldn't know what I was apologizing for.

I suppose the rest my age are still out there trying to 'find themselves.'
But damn, how long have they been searching?
I guarantee if they knew what they'd find, they'd stop looking altogether.
But I've got a Jackson in my back pocket that says they'll continue to play hide n' seek without knowing who else is in the game.

But you.
You're brilliant.
Nobody thinks to look in the most obvious places, and I doubt that any of them will ever find you.

For whatever reason, a tear rolls down my face but I smile at my ability to cry.
I'm pretty good at it and no one knows that.
I guess sometimes it's those hidden talents that we're most proud of.

Maybe I'll lay myself down and watch a panoramic documentary until the eyes roll towards the backside of my skull and I find myself on another side of the earth for a few hours.

Take me there please.
Take me there or take me home.

Too many run on lines, without the use of punctuation's I run out of breath while reading. You see punctuation's are a poets tool to make simple sentences sound like music. Use some punctuation's and this poem will become that something you wish it to become.
