For Attention With Each Other Poem by Francis Duggan

For Attention With Each Other

At social and community gatherings where people do meet
For attention with each other many do compete
Miss Pretty looks well with the tints in her hair
She feels that than her there is none quite so fair

Mr Swell looks quite well in white shirt and blue tie
But as is said of appearance sometimes it does lie
He feels that he is god's gift to woman kind
To too much love of self he seems rather inclined

At the community gathering or attention seeking night
The town's social climbers compete for the limelight
In the age of the selfie it is only true to say
That many love self in a very big way

In the early twenty first century the competition for attention between people is rife
In this cyber age it has become part of life
The look at me syndrome does seem the in thing
So many their own praises willing to sing

As always few things in life ever does last
The days of humility are of the past
At community and social gatherings where people do meet
For attention with each other many compete.
