For It Took Just An Embrace Poem by Srimayee Ganguly

For It Took Just An Embrace

For it took just an embrace to free myself:
Locked with arms against your gossamer shirt!
To toss my head backward in flushed daze
To salve our spirits, with hearts on alert...

We spelled peppermint, Polaroid; and the twilit roof
To blame for making the shadows longer...
Tiptoeing hours and yesterday's flowers to admit
Bits of life to gripe and bits of us to love harder.

I kept your shuffling graffiti though eyes were quick to judge-
I grew our forsythias backyard, for hands are quick to tug-
They used to sway, as we watched with pulsating breath,
Till one sundown discovered we had only seen their silhouettes...

For it took just one eventide to free myself,
Unfolding the cobwebs of backwoods wide-open...
