For Now Poem by Michael DeVries

For Now

The rapids shall dry
the forests decay
e’en the mountains one day will fade
ground to dust by the juggernaut that is time
and they shall never be here again.

Even thus will I age
the strength and vigor of my youth will wane
this invincible cloak may become my cage
as I am undone by the beast that is time.
and I shall never be here again.

Alas, even you my dear cannot it for one moment delay
and your beauty it one day will claim
and I’ll miss the way you move with that seductive sway
as even you are dismantled by the monster that is time.
and you shall never be here again.

But for now my dear our youth remains
and you are as breathtaking as ever I’ve seen you
let time bring what it may, right now we have each other
so let us seize this moment and spit in the face of that thief that is time
for we shall never be here again.

This poem turned in the way i expected, but i felt like it was missing something-the last stanza was not as profound a turning point as I thought it would have been. I enjoyed this poem though. Your images are clear, your wording is deft. The theme may be a little overdone, but this poem is written well enough to be worth reading.
