Glimpse Poem by Michael DeVries

Glimpse

Everyone around slumbers,
yet I lie awake
wondering how the color had left my world.

Then I see you sleeping there,
the blanket over your slender arm
rising and falling with your steady breath.

The dim light nearby,
cascading over your slumbering body,
caresses your beautiful face.

Your pretty eyes are closed
those deep pools hidden
by the hair falling carelessly across your face.

You turn in your sleep,
and the moment is gone
but in that moment
I was again allowed just a glimpse
of the beauty this world can hold.
