Forbidden Poem by Edwin Hopper

Forbidden

There's this old guy from TV, (now on trial) ,
back in the day went with girls under age.
Today they all say he's a paedophile,
and every one's into a righteous rage.

About then, decades back, I was at school,
I kissed girls, and one sucked my tongue.
Girls and boys. We thought we were cool.
We didn't know. We were laughably young.

Then, when older, when I went to a dance,
I'd try and ask how old were the beauties.
Honest. On age, I'd never take a chance.
Of course I knew the law, and my duties.

Well, yes, my mate had this gorgeous sister.
God, I fancied her. Thought she was older.
When she told me - I'd only kissed her.
But might have tried more, if I was bolder.

No. I never went, like that, with a kid.
Yes. Quite sure. At least, I don't think I did.
