Forever When Poem by Dean Meredith

Forever When

You appeared magically
There was no great flash
I hoped you sat next to me
So we could talk and share

Not at the time of course
This is now after words
And my mind full of you
Thinking exotic thoughts

Looking back it’s almost
Hard and almost easy and
Almost touching heaven
When I see you in that light

How can a curious cat not?
Gaze into your warming glow
And find a distant star
Outshining all the others

Do you think I have control?
Now in this spell of you
Oh what joyous doom
To orbit you as your moon

In my slow motion spin
I have no conscious choices
There is only night and day
As I float on around you

Who could have wished?
A more beautiful end than
To see your loveliness each
And every wondrous dusk

And bathe in your sparkles
Lighting my lonely way
With but without you
I live and die over and over

Patiently waiting again and
Again for one more Christmas
To see you tear the paper
With frantic girly glee

And show me another present
Of yours from far off worlds
All trying so desperately to
Woo you and be your lord

How can a curious cat not?
Hope to curl at your feet
And how could his dreams
Not be filled with you?

Some things are ordained
Others required by law
A few are freely chosen
I like my newfound chains

Each link is virgin silver
Forged by breath of fire
Struck by lightening bolts
And strengthened with desire

Not for worldly conquest
The odd hunting party yes
Command me Goddess
I am yours forever when
