Frank Murphy Poem by Francis Duggan

Frank Murphy

He was Cork G A A County Secretary when I was a young man
And I am getting on in years at the twilight of my life span
To end the Cork hurlers strike of 2009 he has not gone out of his way
Though in the strike some seem to think that he has some part to play
For thirty five years as Cork County Board Secrtetary a job for which he is well paid
Frank Murphy from the G A A a good living has made
But for Frank's seeming dislike of Cork's best hurlers and footballers hurling coach Gerald McCarthy takes the fall
And with their best footballers also threatening strike for Cork G A A, a poor Season overall
Cork's best under Gerald the red jersey will not wear
And it takes the best to enjoy success of which we are aware
And though Gerald eventually may give his unpaid coaching job away
Frank will never resign since he receives a good week's pay
And for Cork G A A not much hope of any success in the year 2009
Though that may come much later on and further down the line.
