Fresh Start Poem by Gerald Hamilton Jr

Fresh Start

Rating: 5.0

My fresh start didn’t begin when she broke my heart.
I know it wasn’t when I slept alone the first night.
All hopes were lost my dreams were broken.
I gave up on life for unknown reason.

I searched my soul for reason for rhyme.
How will I withstand this test of time?
With a heavy heart I stand alone.
Like a dead man my soul was gone.

All I could do was lie in my bed of sorrow and cry.
I wallowed in self pity and not once did I dry my eyes.
Oh how I hated life, I was dead inside.

What did I do wrong?
Why am I the one that has to suffer?
Where was her heart when mine was offered?
When did she give up I hadn’t noticed?
She crushed me dang it! ! ! Just like all the others.

Like a sweet summers breeze hope blows in.
I’m finding new reason to try again.
Like a sunrise in early morning my spirits are lifted.
My heart fills with warmth again, oh how I missed it.

Like a heaven sent gift you were sent to me.
You stole away the hurt and the pain.
My fresh start began on this day.
All along I just needed you to find my way.
