Friend, Foe Poem by Denys E. W. Jones

Friend, Foe

When I was four or five years old,
I bought a box of Airfix troops -
Russian Army, World War Two.
Not knowing which side they'd fought on,
I asked my mum for more info.
"They stood with us", she said, and smiled,
"They helped us bring the Germans low."
Yet nothing's stable, all things flow,
As most schoolchildren surely know.
Those Russians who were once our friends,
Have now become our deadly foe.
