Friends V Foes Poem by priscah Mutswenje

Friends V Foes

Friends and foes have clear faces
This is a lesson all of us must posses
To overcome heart attacks and shocks
Because a foe is a foe and a friend is a friend

Even in families, there are foes and friends
Foes sit close to monitor and run to the fence
Their laughter is plastic and their intentions tense
They talk in punctuated ways that sweep our chance

Beware, foes will be mum wen you achieve
they never open your opportunities to thrive
Even if they stand on a hill their voices retrieve
From those in the valleys or trying to strive

Their language is sarcastic and full of mockery
They would say humble before the fall from your bravery
They would scorn your baby steps and call it slavery
they would baptize you a freak, a psycho... to chance you a quivery

Friends on the other hands, walk the talk
Their critique is open and friendly without a shock
They empower your environment and eliminate the choke
Their advice build mountains and inspire a folk

Friends will wipe your mess and instill discipline
They warn against danger and make it as plain
They share opportunities and encourage one not to wane
Take heart, it will be okay, if not enough in trouble line

Friends embrace empathy and act genuinely
They trust in your mistakes and assist dearly
they are the angles they save one from suicide urgently
They make one comfortable and comfort readily

Friends say, I do not have, but I will seek
Foes say, I will look for it, in a mere trick
To put you off, and soon their phone never to pick
Friends hold on to you until you no longer freak

you will later smile and make a palace out of the shanty
With friends
With enemies
you will burn up from deep in the stomach and become a chanty
Little fool
