From Base To Basics Poem by Dave SmithWhite

From Base To Basics

When the least is valued higher,
When Trump's the new messiah,
You can never set that bar too low.
Can your wit get any drier,
Or is it grift that lights your fire?
You drift along and never really know.

With a vision simply sour;
When he looks at you, he glowers.
For you know his towering ego is a bluff.
For this world is full of terrors,
For the fool who admits no errors,
When it's all just smoke and mirrors,
He plays it tough.

You can't lurch too much lower,
Than to the church of the constricting boa;
The victor that would strangle every truth.
You can't urge the base much lower,
Than to act in haste much slower,
So the man can play the angles without reproof.

As the consummate bottom-feeder,
To the illiterate dupe non-reader,
He entangles all in chaos and mangles up the proof.
Both as the strangest orange breeder,
And a sanguine bloodless leader,
He's the wrangler herding cool cats on the roof,

You can't fall too much lower,
When the great one is the sower,
Of the seeds of doubt that elections are a sham.
Your call can't be much lower,
With this self-absorbed guff blower,
When his puffed-up pout projections are a scam.

You can't rub raw the scour,
That drubs the people's power,
Or subverts it to this coward's craven word.
For no-one could be keener,
Than to display his crass demeanor,
For this club man's but a meaner grub absurd.

You can't fall from grace much higher,
Than to believe in this bad liar,
And be lured by a pure inner glow.
You can't be less inspired,
When your self deceit's hard-wired,
As you engineer your own destruction blow by blow!
