FROM FISHING-VILLAGE TO METROPOLIS



‘... and said that here romanticism
had been bombed away
to make room for a new kind of romanticism
and that in this manner romanticism too
had been annexed to the satisfaction
of all citizens and that
if Amsterdam the heart of the Netherlands
this settlement surely the family jewels.'
