From Friends Of The Past Poem by Francis Duggan

From Friends Of The Past

Though some of them retain a place in the heart
From friends of the past we tend to grow apart
They have formed new friendships and new bonds like you
Though to some of our friends of the past we remain ever true
As we age we tend to move on from the fiendships of our prime
Like 'tis said there are few things that do not change in time
Our interests are different and in life we move on
And though the past we remember the past it has gone
The ageing migrant returned to his Hometown
The streets of his young years he walked up and down
Some of his friends of the past he did meet only to become aware
That in common with them he had little to share
Though our former friends from our thoughts are not gone
We have formed new friendships and in life we've moved on.
