From My Friends Of The Past Poem by Francis Duggan

From My Friends Of The Past

For them I do still have a place in my heart
But from my friends of the past I have grown apart
The most of them I have not seen for sometime
Like me they are many years past their life's prime
And since their ideas of life are quite different to mine
For what now is past tense it seems pointless to pine
What we once had in common we may no longer share
That we all change in some way I am all too aware
Though in bouts of nostalgia we go back the years
The past is the past and on it why waste tears
They may find me boring if we met today
We change as we age that is our human way
My life's journey did take me far from Millstreet
And my friends of the past I may never more meet.
