From Where The Sugar Cane Grow Poem by Francis Duggan

From Where The Sugar Cane Grow

The ways of the city life he is getting to know
The man from the place where the sugar cane grow
With his wife and young son and daughter in Melbourne he has settled roots down
Far south of the sub tropics and his South Queensland Hometown,
On a suburban building site he earns his pay
And he has a few beers at the local pub after work every day
Only in his late twenties and in his life's prime
It's been six years since he has lived in Queensland that's going back in time
Far from where his parents and siblings and former friends live new friends he has made
In the big City more work and more for his work he gets paid
In Footscray far south of where the sugar cane grow
A different sort of lifestyle he has come to know
But with two lovely children and a beautiful and devoted young wife
He is a man who feels content with his lot in life.
