On the upper Texas coast
A gleaming city stands by the sea.
Knocked down and ravaged, so many times,
It continues in the semi tropical heat.
Oh Galveston, I have never seen,
thine equal.
And never will again.
Lush streets filled with live oaks,
And the scent of magnolias is everywhere.
People of all colors and persuasions,
smile at each other easily.
Oh Galveston,
My heart does bleed for thee.
A gleaming Jewel,
You will be again.
The Great Sea Wall faces southeast.
A knight in shining armor,
Ready for battle,
And to serve it's king.
Plumerias and Oleanders,
Once again permeate the breeze,
Spanish moss hangs again, on the live oaks.
The people are all returning.
The Jewel will glow again.
Galveston, my Galveston,
My heart was ever yours,
Since first I saw, thy gentle soul.
