Gardener Please Be Kind and Leave Some Leaves Behind Poem by john (called jack) wren

Gardener Please Be Kind and Leave Some Leaves Behind

Gardener please be kind to me
And listen to my urgent plea,
Please listen to my request, and
Leave some leaves for my nest.

The Fox thinks I'm a ball
Rolling me over spikes and all,
Then leaves the scene in vexation
To pursue his next vocation.
My probing eyes search the night air
Through my face of matted hair,
Piercing each entwined blade
Of sleepy grass in the glade.

Timorous wee beasties cower in fright
From my voracious appetite,
Trembling like a wind blown leaf
In fear they will come to grief.

Standing still to investigate
I listen for those who resonate,
From under soil or under log
Listening for any dialogue.

The time is near when I must fill
My bodies need with all my skill,
A time not to underestimate
Is the time I go to hibernate.
