Gears In A Clock Poem by Joseph D E Phillips

Gears In A Clock

We went to schools
   to learn to be tools
of billionaire fools
   with nice big pools.

Those in power
   pay by the hour
a crumb of the sum
   and the rest they devour.

Tik tok
   dickery dock-
We were nothing
   but gears in a clock.

We worked and bled
   just to be fed
then crawled into bed
   until we were dead.

The suits are so sly!
   They cheat to get by
and fed us and bred us
   and filled us with lies.

Tik tok
   dickery dock-
We were nothing
   but gears in a clock.

Own and brand
   is the American Way.
Buy the land
   and make the servants pay!

They bought up the news
   to make us comply.
They bought up the senate
   where rights go to die.

Some day we'll rumble
   and power will crumble.
The rich will be humbled
   and towers will tumble.
The people will suffer
   and life will get rougher.
We'll choke and we'll smother
   and blow up our brother
and power will shift
   to the hands of another

but will a democracy
   finally rise
or another plutocracy
   draped in disguise?

Freedom is burning.
   The gears keep on turning.
The weak foot the bill
   and struggle until

all of the people
   stop fighting and talk
about how to be more
   than gears in a clock.

Tik tok
   dickery dock-
we are more
   than gears in a clock.

Wow another fantastic poem on the political powers that reap what others sow and maintain the working class status quo for their benefit. Kudos! !
