I decided one day years ago
To trace my family history
So I started from the beginning
To solve many descendant mysteries
And so I started in Washington
At the place where I was born
By then the dear old home
Was looking worn and forlorn
I talked to family and friends
Traveled to family cemeteries
Documenting volumes of history
With many wonderful stories
I gathered up hundreds of pictures
Why, some even came from slides
I made it a lifelong mission
And took many cross-country rides
You make so many new friends
Discover long lost kin
It is definitely worth the effort
But first you must begin
So if you’d like to know about
Your ancestors and who they were
You’ve heard many fascinating stories
But you want to know for sure
Just take the first step and begin it
The way I did many years past
Record all of your knowledge
It’s valuable information that will last!
