Ghost Poem by R K Summers

Ghost

Rating: 5.0

To the ghost outside my window
You stare inside all night
Your mouth hides a secret smile
And your eyes are shining bright

The night is burning, icy cold
But you cannot feel a thing
You turn away and face the dark
While you listen to me sing

Why have you come for me?
My silver spirit friend
I know you cannot cross the glass
So you watch until the end

Blank me from your fading mind
Until I’m no longer there
Forget I live, forgive my heart
Until you no longer care

You’ve seen my tears, you’ve seen my blood
You’ve seen a thousand goodbyes
But you chose to haunt my windowsill
Like a shadow that never dies

What drew you to me, my love?
The sea salt in my hair?
Or perhaps the scent of loneliness
Like a stallion to a mare

I only wait for rain to fall
To wash away your sin
I wonder if you’d leave me then
When you find your soul within

The smell of bitter almonds
Tells me that you’re here
My cyanide lover has come to me
Yet all I feel is fear

How did you find me?
How did you get through?
Can you bring me to life tonight?
I want it to be true
