Girl In A Miniskirt Reading The Bible Outside My Window - Poem by Charles Bukowski

Sunday, I am eating a
grapefruit, church is over at the Russian
Orthadox to the
west.

she is dark
of Eastern descent,
large brown eyes look up from the Bible
then down. a small red and black
Bible, and as she reads
her legs keep moving, moving,
she is doing a slow rythmic dance
reading the Bible. . .

long gold earrings;
2 gold bracelets on each arm,
and it's a mini-suit, I suppose,
the cloth hugs her body,
the lightest of tans is that cloth,
she twists this way and that,
long yellow legs warm in the sun. . .

there is no escaping her being
there is no desire to. . .

my radio is playing symphonic music
that she cannot hear
but her movements coincide exactly
to the rythms of the
symphony. . .

she is dark, she is dark
she is reading about God.
I am God.

come on people get over it, he means he wished he was god if what SHE is reading has to do with god, he wishes she knew him or read about him (Report) Reply

I see most women here didn't understand this poem..didn't 'get it'. Ask your husband / boyfriend (should he be blessed with a brain lol) - Especially for 'Angel'; I am God ! ! ! (Report) Reply

CB says 'I am God' because to him we are all God. So is she, for that matter. That's why he writes about us as we are without judgment or distortion.

She moves to his symphony because she is he, which is why he can't escape her being. CB saw it right where, stripped of pretense, we are God and all that there is.

Maybe she had to go potty. Those Russian Orthodox services can go on for a few hours! (Report) Reply

I think he says 'I am God' because he is looking in from the outside on her like God would look down on us hypothetically. He feels like he is controlling her too because she is moving to the rythem of His music. This set against the scene of church letting out has made him think about what he is viewing in a religious sense....So essentially he is tying God into what is going on in front of him because seeing the church put God in his subconcious thoughts and he feels he has power over her because she is moving to his beat so therefore he is like God. I hope that makes sense.... (Report) Reply

Why the f-ck are you asking Bukowski a question? His is God and God is dead! (Report) Reply

Is she reading a note about you? or is the final line just illustrating your exhilaration (Report) Reply
