Give "Emo" A Chance. Poem by Aaron Gotham

Give "Emo" A Chance.

I love heavy metal music
I was born into it, and always will be.
Loud, mean music is my passion, and it's what I know best,
But lately, these sad emo love songs have been corrupting my mind.
"Don't love me, I'll cut myself" but said in a way I like.
I've learned its all ok to listen to something light, but these songs...
They always want to make me cry. And I'm not saying I will,
But every time this lead singer pushes his voice to the point where it hurts,
To say the few words of "I still miss that smile" has been killing me lately.
It's been making me want to just walk around in the rain, and sing to the birds,
The same way they sing to me. But in the tune of that one post-hardcore bands song of course.
For the hours of ear time I devote towards Slayer every day,
Always gets soothed with a little love song.
And though it may make me look sort of queer,
I can't help but to say that I love the way queer sounds.
Hell, at least I have the balls to be a queer… I'm talking to you dad.
So, even though you might think it's stupid, a little bit of a sad song,
Can always make some things good.
Even if it's talking about killing yourself,
Just think of how far you've gotten and how lucky you are that,
You aren't the guy wearing eyeliner singing about his razors.
Because, sometimes it's ok to be sad, even if you're metal as f***.
So next time you're on Pandora, skipping through songs,
And you hear one that cries for attention,
Give that Boulevard of Broken Dreams knock off a chance,
Maybe sad could be a good thing.
