Give Me A Morning Poem by moon batchelder

Give Me A Morning

give me a morning as broad as tomorrows.
grant me a moment of peace.
batter my spirit with pleasures and sorrows
until i shall earn sweet release.

cast me ashore like a shipwreck survivor.
torment me with plenty and need.
abandon my flesh in a maze of desires,
i shall follow wherever you lead.

ravish my body with vulgar inventions.
soothe me with gentle restraint.
honor my presence with feasting and incense
as tho i were goddess or saint.

grant me the leisure of every temptation.
touch me to every extreme.
until such a time as i lose all sensation,
and forfeit the cost of the dream
.
give me a reason to keep on pretending;
nothing sedate or mundane.
grant me my passions before, we ascending
are gone beyond pleasure and pain.
