Give Me Spring Poem by Francis Duggan

Give Me Spring

Rating: 5.0

Frost and sleety rain and snow
And cold the wintery winds do blow
Leafless trees and hedgerows bare
And signs of Winter everywhere.

Long drear night and short bleak day
And sunless sky so gloomy gray
Hungry birds refuse to sing
Give me birdsong, give me spring.

Give me grass growing April showers
And meads bedecked with wildering flowers
And finches singing songs of joy
And skylarks carolling in the sky

I'm not one who like to complain
But I hate cold and wintery rain
And snow capped hills and frost bound vales
And loud destructive winter gales.

Oh give me sunshine every day
And warm winds like the winds of May
And green hedgerows and leafy trees
Where songbirds pipe sweet melodies.
