Give Us This Day, Our Daily Bread. Poem by Osagie Francis samuel Omono

Give Us This Day, Our Daily Bread.

GIVE US THIS DAY, OUR DAILY BREAD.

She walked up to me with her daughter,
By her side.
With no shame, without pride,
Sir I am not here for kobo she said,
Just a labour, cloths to wash,
So myself and children could have breakfast.

It broke my heart to hear,
No labour from me to you,
Have this token, with joy she knelt down,
In gratitude.

Countless many, countless times.
For how long shall we, keep begging them,
For little crumbs of bread, to fill our stomachs?

We don't ask for the heavens,
We don't ask for mansions,
Just a good shelter over our heads,
Just good roads that leads through,
Just safety yes safety of our communities,
Were our children freely will live,
With no fear of being unalived by terror.

Give us this day, our daily (Garri) Bread,
And a little sugar in our tea,
Is all we ask for.

It's me,
Fso.
