Walk swift, or walk slowly your way,
Go the way whereso goes your will,
This way you will or else that way,
To plain meadows or up the hill,
Go where your heart at home may feel.
Free the child in you from the feign,
Let him run wild in freedom's space,
A closed door knows no joys of rain,
Open places have a child's grace,
Sing a new song, no old refrain.
Let every day with joy amaze,
Wearing a wide smile's no dour drill,
And smile is it that finds new ways,
Frown, and find in front a steep hill,
A-burn, sun smiles unto white rays.
Just leap, waiting helps with no chance,
A peacock is not taught to dance—
Birds to sing, nor how to romance,
Sing as if only but you can,
And go whereso you please, O man.
