God Are You Here Poem by Holly Jamestone

God Are You Here

When you’ve lost your way you may not always recognize the signs
The roads washed out, the asphalt breached, the tangled, floundering vines
You wander and you skip along or look up toward the sky
You aren’t aware your path is dark and, thus, you do not cry

You make yourself a picnic and you wander toward the stream
You see a remnant rainbow where the heavens met earth’s seam
You look into the water and you see your life’s reflection
A myriad of times gone by, a chance for new direction

Your babies went to heaven and your health was compromised
Your faith was further tested during the days you agonized
Your husband then had cancer and the heavens turned to black
Confusing, scary, so unfair; you slowly turned your back

Eventually you walked away from all you knew as love
Of heavens, angels, hope or dreams about a God above
And on the day you’d had enough, your soul could take no more
Your head held high, your heart quite bruised from pain it had to store

You made the right decision to remove the disrespect
Protecting “lives” of children from rage one can’t deflect
But God has always been there and is goodness we possess
His love may help your heavy heart and lessen your duress
