God Forgive Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

God Forgive

God forgive

His right palm wide open
Index-thumb far-apart
The made ‘V’ in his mouth
He spits “God, forgive.”

(His culture)

I’d ignored his first talk
“Right he was, ” Charles Darwin.
Meant to say: “She’s monkey.”

He had seen a young girl
Standing on corner,
Pointed “Look at her.”

In a while:
“Chimpanzee”

Her lips, cheeks and her chin
Exactly a monkey.

One passed by
Eyes blue and blonde
Second passed, dark of night
Polished boots of soldier
Sat in face as her eyes.

“What are we? ”
