Gods Angel Poem by Jeremy Nel

Gods Angel

How can it be, than in one life
Some see so much strife
And other live unaware
Of life’s struggles o’er there?
Can we be of the same race
E’en though we occupy the same space?

I listen to your words and hear
A different world of pain and fear
That come from deep within
Caused by others who regard their sin
As normal life, and cannot see
The pain they caused to thee.

Yet, wondres marvel I behold
A gentleness in all I’m told
And when I into thine
Eyes do look, I see the spark divine
God created in this angel, and through heavens portal
Sent below to mingle as a mortal.

I do behold with rapt attention
This angel as she doth mention
All that she had done, endured
And yet, still with compassion lured
Damaged souls with her to rest
Their wounds to mend, as she knows best

How can it be? That God would send an angel here?
Is it to teach us too, heavenly compassion? Ere
We are lost as human beings to God’s grace
Fallen, ne’er to be uplifted to that space
That heaven holds for us, the miserly
In eternal hope that we should learn to use free will wisely?

Oh angel, teach me God’s compassion
That I may learn from thine passion
And Gods love for us the fallen race
Not to stumble but to lift our face
Hea’enward towards divine grace
E’en tho we be shattered by the mace.
