your eyes
are what kept me alive
the strength that you gave me
trying to save me
is gone
we had to go separate ways
each of us trying
to ease the others pain
but we would always remember
the time we spent together
holding you while you shake
seeing you like that was more than i could take
helping me clean my cuts
i'm sure it must have torn you up
and now we've gone away
because we couldn't stay
with the way things were
i'm not sure
we could have gone another way
trying to make it right
for everything we hold dear
we had to fight
and everyone who was there
just looked at us and sighed
when we left we didn't bother
to say any good-byes
