Gone Again Poem by Biff McGuire

Gone Again

There is a restless side of me
you’ll never feel and cannot see
The voice you hear that says stay home
is telling me I need to roam
There’s nothing here to make me stay
or justify the words you say
Just when it seems I’ve settled in
and feel I’m welcome here again
The words that sting come from you lips
and cut my legs off at the hips
Unknowing of the way they feel
the hurt you cause that will not heal
I cannot seem to shake free from
the angry person I’ve become
You think I’ll bow to you once more
and never use the open door
That leads into a different life
without a needing wanting wife
Who doesn’t seem to understand
the emptiness inside a man
And makes him see beyond the sun
a place of refuge he can run
Unto and be the man he was
before the reasons and the cause
That sent him here to hide awhile
to seek a warm and glowing smile
And make him feel a man again
and know that there is still a friend
Somewhere out there, to make him laugh
unlike his somber (better half)
