Good And Evil Poem by Randy McClave

Good And Evil

An old man sat on his patio deck
As he watched his two Irish Setters fight,
They bit at each others paws and neck
One Setter was black and the other one was white.
There the old man just sat and continually looking on,
From dusk until early dawn.

A young boy walked up to the old man and spoke
Why are your two dogs fighting in front of your patio,
One seems to protect and one seems to provoke
And each one seemed as each others foe.
The dogs are protecting my yard and me said the man,
And to protect me, they'll do all that they can.

The old man said the two dogs are symbols
As they fight continuously to guard me and my deck,
In my mind one is good and the other one is evil
And they both want to earn my loyalty and respect.
Remember, good and evil is always fighting inside of us,
The old man said with a certainty without a quarrel or a fuss.

The young boy kept watching the Setters fighting
Then he wondered to himself which of the two will finally win,
Will it be the white one or the black one doing the most biting
Will the winner be of goodness or the one of sin.
The boy then asked which will win, the black or the white Setter,
The old man then replied, it'll be the one that I feed better.
