I said good-bye and kissed her
My face pressed against her cheek
Her breath now seemed labored
Her sleep had become so deep.
She had fought an uphill battle
As her mind slowly slipped away
But God was calling her home now
On this sad but timely day.
For this lady had passed her peak
Not the strong person that she was
For she totally depended on others
She no longer had a cause.
She once was feisty in her manner
She had a determined intelligent mind
She was frugal in her spending
Yes, the strong old-fashioned kind.
Oh, how she loved her flowers
She was meticulous with their care
And I enjoy the ones she gave me
For she truly loved to share.
As we think about her life
Throughout so many years
We will remember her with love
Even though we shed our tears.
