Grandpa And Grandson (I Presume) Poem by Frank Ammerlaan

Grandpa And Grandson (I Presume)

Rating: 5.0

What an ugly old nose
And a brownish yellow face
His liver must have swollen
Looks like the last of his days

But if you look on,
You'll see …

Dedication and caring
A warming sight for our eyes
His grandson on his lap, sitting
There's nothing he wants otherwise

The child needs confirmation
Looking up at the old man
Obviously wants his attention
Which he gives, as much as he can

Their lives have long past due
Don't know them, that's true
But his love is recorded, ever lasting
On this beautiful piece of painting

And look at that background
It's impressive, too

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This painting hangs in the Louvre. It inspired me to write this. I'm not sure if they are grandfather and grandson. It's added to make the story more lively. Please let me know if you see room for improvement in the poem.: -)
