Unripe and finished is what I recall.
The "Green Bananas" metaphor
Says it short; says it all.
But I never knew just exactly what was meant
Until I became old
and discovered that "my future"
had went.
The days were not nearly as ripe-
filled with incoming future hope
No longer was I young-
coming to the end of my rope.
Yes, the "No longer buying green bananas"
Says more than it scans,
As I mentioned it says it all-
It says,
"You no longer can make plans."
