Grief Stricken Widow Poem by Alanna Flynn

Grief Stricken Widow

Young lovers, captivated by one another.
Recently wed, embracing their love.
A tragedy is bestowed upon them.
Ending with one alone.
With a need to reminisce that horrifying memory that she must keep.
Her lover and best friend, being swallowed by the sea.
They were celebrating their newfound love, on a ship sailing to Paradise.
When a hard wave hit, he tried to put up a fight.
He was knocked overboard, but not soon forgotten.
She remembered.
She remembered.
When the authorities came to investigate,
She was required to return to the place that she learned to hate.
Scene by scene, she relieved that moment.
Cringing in bitterness and agony.
She told them of the wind that night.
The wind that blew with all its might.
She even described the creaking sound the ship made,
Whenever the path become rough.
As she continued with her tale,
Tears rolled down her face.
She had watched him fall overboard that night,
But there was nothing that could have been done.
The fog was too heavy. The conditions were too much.
Although she fought to find him, the sea had won.
