Grow Up* Poem by Thistle Wargul

Grow Up*

You were like the sun to me,
Always there, or at least until the storm.
You meant a lot to me,
Always smiling, always caring.

You used to be my best friend,
Used to make me laugh
In the rain, before the storm.

You used to be my best friend,
Until I woke up
To your hate, and your scorn.

And now I see you try to get your own back
For the things you never did, the things you never said.
‘Cos you’re angry at me, angry at yourself
For letting it get out of hand, you tried to hold me back.

Grow up, you’re acting like a fool.
Grow up, you’re acting like a child.
Grow up, you should know better.
Grow up, I’m not like you.

Why’d you turn your back on me,
Was it because I didn’t need you?
Why’d you try and hurt me,
Was it because you were jealous?

You used to be a nice girl,
You used to help me out,
Before you let me down.

You used to be a nice girl,
Promised me “forever”,
Until you went and changed.

I’m waiting, I understand but you
Made some mistakes you never tried to correct.
So now I’m watching, waiting for the day when
You will realise, it’s time, time to grow up.

Grow up, you’re acting like a fool.
Grow up, you’re acting like a child.
Grow up, you should know better.
Grow up, I’m not like you.

Face it, I’m not like you.
