Held Back Poem by Thistle Wargul

Held Back

Trapper like a bird in a cage too small.
Chained like a dog on a shortened leash.
Not enough room to move my wings.
Tied up to watch some kids on swings.

The delicate wings of a butterfly,
Battered by the roaring wind.
Shreds of velvet canvas,
Falling like a rainbow snow.

Watched like an experimental rat.
Disliked like a mouse or bat.
No privacy for what I say.
Resentful looks from day to day.

The bright yellow petals of a daffodil,
Set on by a frosty winter breeze.
Edges turned a crispy darkened brown,
Stalk withering and fading away.

Held back!
Tied down!
Beaten away!
Set upon!

Wanting to be
Free!
